From 28th May until 3rd June 2005 myself, Alice and two friends set about walking from one side of Britain to the other. We did, admittedly, go across at one of the narrowest bits of England, but the end result is still the same!
The Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail was fully opened in 2003, and uses the path of the northern Roman Frontier to create an 84 mile trek from Wallsend in Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Bowness-on-Solway. It doesn't look like a true coast-to-coast on the map above, but the first stages of teh walk alogn the Tyne see bladderwrack on the sure - a definite sign of saltwater (or, at least, that's what the guidebook said).
